The Red Deer County, Alberta-based company is the only whitewater race boat manufacturer in North America.  "Riverboat technology is a fast-paced market, and we set the pace," Outlaw Eagle asserts.

Eagle Powerboats, focuses mainly on race and sport boats.  Meanwhile, Outlaw Marine specialized in backcountry hunting, fishing and commercial boats.

Dale Whiteside has taken on the legacy of developing the race industry and the technology for river jet boats.

Merging the Two Together

 

With Whiteside at the helm, the company boosted its R&D capabilities and now prides itself on having the most cutting-edge boats in the industry. He says the company continues to change and improve its boats on a yearly basis - a strategy that has paid off.  Outlaw Eagle's aluminum race hulls hold the most records and have won 16 out of the last 19 world championship whitewater races - two of which were won by Whiteside himself.

 

Commercial and Private Boats

Outlaw Eagle builds approximately 95 boats each year from its 26,000-square-foot manufacturing ship in Red Deer.  Its Outlaw Marine division is known to build one of the best backcountry, heavy-duty commercial boats in the boating world, Whiteside says.  The company builds seven jet boat models that vary based on usage, he says, "whether they're built as shallow water, rugged, real tough jet boats to multipurpose lake and river use boats."  These range from 16 to 26 feet in length and are based on years of building for extreme outdoor activists by experienced boaters designing the boats.  Outlaw Marine also offers custom commercial boats for oilfield seismic applications and Royal Canadian Mounted Police search-and-rescue operations.  The strength of Outlaw boats enable the professional or responder to not worry about the conditions and focus on the project or mission.

 

The Eagle Performance Boats division's sport models are designed for all types of racing environments, from skinny water to open lake.  Their bottom designs are either Step Tec, which offers more control, or Delta pad, which is durable for shallow waters.  The company also manufactures tunnel hull boats that are built to specification as well as three cross-use models "which are comparable to a tournament towboat, but with a jet pump," Whiteside describes.

"Through testing and racing, we have come up with bottom designs which really set our boats apart from everyone else's," he continues. "We spend a lot of time in the water driving the boats, learning about them and comparing them.  We also stay in touch with our customers, listening to what they have to say, understanding what their needs and uses are, and that helps us develop and build better boats to suit their needs."
